Effects of a physical education program on the development of early literacy abilities in preschool children
2016
Introduction Several studies showed a relationship between physical activity and cognition in school-aged children (Carson et al 2015). The aim of this study was to analyse whether the amount and frequency of a physical education (PE) program affected the early reading and writing skills in preschool children. Methods This study involved 189 children (age: 4.62 ± 0.97 years; height: 107.83 ± 7.82 cm, body weight: 19.84 ± 4.95 kg) of 8 Palermo kindergartens who were randomly divided in a control group (C, n= 29), a 1-intervention group (I-1, n= 120) and a 2-intervention group (I-2, n= 40). I-1 and I-2 children performed a PE program of 16-week length for 4 and 10 hours/week, respectively (to…

2018
Full Article Figures & data References Citations Metrics Reprints & Permissions Get access Abstract Competency in visual literacy (VL) is crucial for effective visual communication, and thus for living and working in a visually saturated environment. However, VL across disciplines is still marginalized in higher education curricula. This tendency is partly caused by the lack of knowledge and agreement on what it means to be visually literate. This study juxtaposes and evaluates 11 VL definitions, selected as the most relevant for higher education practitioners and coined from 1969 (the first one) to 2013 (the most recent one). The study further proposes three lists of VL skills with themati…
10.-12. klašu skolēnu medijpratība
2018
Apjomīgais informācijas daudzums, neierobežotās piekļuves un izmantošanas iespējas, tehnoloģiju attīstība un mediju vides pārmaiņas liek nepārtraukti attīstīt savas kompetences pilnvērtīgam darbam ar medijos pieejamo saturu. Pētījuma mērķis izpētīt Jelgavas 10. - 12. klašu vidusskolēnu medijpratības kompetences un noskaidrot izglītības iestāžu pedagogu viedokli par medijpratību, tās nozīmi. Teorētisko bāzi veido Alberta Banduras sociāli kognitīvā teorija, Ērika Eriksona personības attīstības psihosociālā teorija un UNESCO mediju un informācijpratības kompetenču matrica. Darbā izmantotās datu ieguves metodes – aptauja un ekspertu intervijas. Pēc pētījuma rezultātiem var secināt, ka jaunieši …
